四川铜币，是晚清和北洋时期四川省地方政权铸造的货币。由于川省银铜矿缺乏，加之辛亥革命以后军阀割据，致使中央《币制条例》关于铜币之原料比例、铜币面额的规定没有严格遵守，四川铜币发行量十分，致使物价虚高、影响经济发展。四川铜币，自光绪二十九年（1903年）六月开铸，至民国二十四年（1935年）十一月法币开始流通才逐渐退出流通领域

四川铜币的正面有“军造”字样，而甘肃铜币上并无“军造”标识，说明铜元的版本并无统一的标准要求。还有四川铜币上的纪年是民国二年，甘肃铜币上的纪年是民国十五年，起码说明铜元上的这些纪年，并不是当时铸币的年号

四川军发行的货币，目的在于筹措军饷，维持开支，同时也是满足保路运动的需要，所以“汉”字铜币具有货币和民用货币的属性。后期川中各路军阀铸造众多铜币，流通周期也相对较长，再加上换模修版等原故，导致版别极其复杂。“军造四川铜币”于1912年(民国元年)开铸之后，至1925年(民国14年)的十余年间，几乎从未间断其铸造。

1911年10月辛亥革命爆发，12月四川成立大汉四川军，四川军接管了设在成都的四川造币分厂。为满足军需和保路运动的需要，废除了前清龙模银币，新创四川铜币模型，于1912年起，由四川造币厂正式开铸四川军“汉”字银元。四川铜币在当时主要是给四川军阀给当兵的发军饷用的，发行量较少，流通时间较短，现今存世量亦较少。在推翻封建王朝建立民国的过程中，军发挥过重要作用。军作为非常时期的区域性临时，曾发行过货币，开始是为了筹措军饷，维持开支，以后也成为区域性的货币，所以军货币具有货币和民用货币的双重职能。 与孙像开国和袁像银元比起来，四川铜币流通范围较窄，发行量与存世量自然无法与者相比。由于这个原因，接触四川铜币的人比较少，研究者更少。但这并不表示川洋的研究价值和市场价值不高，向来经济规律和收藏首要以“物以稀为贵”定律为标准。四川铜币作为特殊历史时期、地方政权的特殊货币，是历史的产物，具有的文物价值，是历史的见证。
